The specific of the course B1.V.03 Environmental safety consists in the formation of students' ability to apply environmental knowledge to solve the main environmental problems of modern heat power engineering. The discipline introduces the student to the concept of environmental safety and the mechanisms for its maintenance, with the basics of modern environmental legislation in Russia. An important place in the content of the discipline is an analysis of the environmental problems of modern traditional energy and the prospects for its development, as well as consideration of the advantages and disadvantages of alternative energy sources.
The knowledge gained contributes to the formation of a modern worldview, an objective assessment of the role of energy in the structure of modern society, as well as predicting the possible consequences of their professional activities.
The theoretical material is fixed in practical classes, as well as in the course of students' independent work (when doing the test papers, writing the answer to test questions and in preparation for the intermediate certification in the form of a set-off (differentiated)).
The main objective of the course B1.V.03 Environmental Safety is the formation of skills for hazard identification, qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, and risk analysis of production facilities.

The student must know
- the principles and methods of rationing pollutants in the biosphere;
- list and characteristics of toxic substances in flue gases and wastewater of heat power facilities;
- equipment and methods to prevent pollution in the energy sector.
The student must be able to
- conduct a qualitative and quantitative risk analysis;
- develop a risk management scheme for the enterprise;
- conduct an economic analysis of risk reduction measures;
- conduct an assessment of the consequences of industrial accidents.
Course B1.V.03 Environmental Safety is the variable part of the base unit of the Мaster's program «Management and ecology in the energy sector». The study of this course based on the following courses «Physics», «Chemistry», «Biology», «Mathematics», «General Ecology», «Human Ecology», «Fundamentals of Nature Management», «Normalization and reduction of environmental pollution» are used «Technogenic systems and environmental risk», «Life safety». Also B1.V.03 Environmental Safety is the basic course for the B1.V.07 Regulatory support of energy-saving measures and projects, B1.V.08 National energy strategies, B1.V.11 Business planning in the energy sector, B1.V.14 Energy management.
